Memorial to the Jewish Holocaust Victims from Hirschberg

27 Jews from Grosssachsen and Leutershausen were victims of the Holocaust. 21 Jews lived in Leutershausen and six Jews in Grosssachsen. Until 1975, Leutershausen and Grosssachsen were independent villages. They were then unified to form a new village called Hirschberg an der Bergstrasse.

The Nazis did not only kill the Jews, moreover, they aimed to wipe out their names and all references to their home villages to avoid any remembering of their existence. The memorial will keep the memory of the victims alive. It was designed by the German artist Myriam Holme and stands on the square next to the Former Synagogue of Leutershausen.

The dedication of the memorial took place on November 9, 2014, on the occasion of the commemoration of the November 1938 pogroms. Read the speech of Rudij Bergmann, filmmaker and author, who introduced the work of Myriam Holme.
